Traditional-style beds transported into 21st century by Tomlinsons Antiques
On average, our height has increased by 5 inches over the last 200 years, which is bad news for antique furniture lovers – how do you fit a six foot tall man into a bed made for a tiny Georgian?
This is why Tomlinsons Antiques, Europe’s largest antique warehouse, is launching a brand new bed range made from high quality wood designed to sit comfortably alongside antique furniture.
The exclusive new range, which will be launched at Tomlinsons warehouse between Wetherby and York on the 26th May, has been conceived in response to customer demand for bigger, more comfortable beds that remain traditional in design to complement the antique styling of so many of today’s homes.
“It is an area in which we have seen a huge surge of demand,” says Sarah Worrall sales director at Tomlinsons. “Many of our customers buy our antiques for their usability – they want antique furniture they can both admire and make practical use of but when it comes to bedroom suites it gets more difficult.
“Even though all our antique beds come with a new mattress and so are ready to use, the small sizes of antique beds (it is unusual to find beds over 5ft in width and certain continental designs were made in non-standard sizes) is proving an obstacle for our taller customers which is why we have introduced a range of traditional beds in modern sizes such as Super King, King or Queen size.”
The range will feature beds from around Europe including an Italian sleigh bed in cherry wood, handmade brass and iron beds from Cornwall and a French upholstered bed from Paris. Tomlinsons have also produced their own bed, a Georgian style mahogany four-poster with finely reeded posts.
“All the beds were chosen for their classic designs and superior quality and comfort,” says Sarah. “We spent a considerable time locating the stock from various suppliers around Europe and the UK and are confident that we have selected the very best reproduction beds to complement our existing antique furniture.”
All beds will be available to buy as frames or headboards alone or with a choice of mattress and base. Prices range from £355 +VAT to £2,400 + VAT.
To accompany the range, Tomlinsons will also be offering a comprehensive selection of Hypnos mattresses and bases. A 25% discount on any mattress or base will be available when purchased in conjunction with any of the reproduction beds. The offer commences the day of the launch, 27th May and extends throughout June.
